Intolerance-a Poem

Apathy breeds intolerance and divisiveness

Nurtures it. A lack of spirituality breeds

Contempt and, contempt leads to suffering.

The world breaks apart, fueled by divisions, 

Where caste, creed, religion, and language

Spread hatred for those who don't belong!

The World drifts apart, and intolerance rules.

The rich survive, the poor suffer. Rulers smile

As they surf the divide to rule over the innocent

Unquestioned. Unscrupulous Lords reign over

Divisions, even as the weak cry with pain.

O Lord, why did you tolerate such injustice?

Brothers fight brothers, only because they have 

Different beliefs! But then alas! Humanity is

Dead. They fight to prove that one is right

And the other is wrong. Humanity is lost just

Because thoughts don't match. Why have we

Been reduced to scavengers who fight for scraps?

Are we so cruel and senseless that we would feast

On mob rage, just to fulfil our vicarious desire to

Enjoy violence, to see blood flow from a body so

Torn and bruised, bring back the gladiators, bring

Back the gore! We love desecration and violence

To feed our hunger for hurt. Where has pity gone?

The rage and hate feed on intolerance, even as the 

Innocent suffer, they lose the blood that flows, as

Others feed on them! The powerful feed on others

Like vampires hungry for blood, on the thrill of

Victory, hollow though it be. The world descends

Into chaos as apathy feeds on apathy, like predators.

Where, oh where, is humanity that tolerates pain

And suffering? Where has spirituality disappeared

That would provide a salve among those distressed?

Where O Lord has humanity disappeared, the balm

That addresses distressed souls, the lost ones, the

Love that bound us has divided us into enemies.

Why do we nurture intolerance and apathy if only

To further our own agendas, to win the votes of

The oppressed believe they will give us validation? 

Why are brothers and sisters fighting each other if

Only to create a separate entity to create a separate 

Identity? Do we really want to divide the world?

If only we'd accept the oneness of all of us the fact

That we are all the same, the same colour of blood,

The same physiology, and the same lineage! If only

Common sense would rule our minds and warn us

About those who foment discord, disagreement, and

Disquiet. If only brothers and sisters wouldn't fight!
