The Martyrdom of Appleseed, Tweedledee and Tweedledum - A Poem

The Martyrdom of Appleseed, Tweeldlee Dee, and Tweedledum

They were the apples of their parents, Appleseed,

A boy with curly hair; Tweedledee, the girl who had a

Gentle smile. Tweedledum, yet another girl, had a

Gentle voice!Alas! Their parents gave them smart devices

To play with. They were soon hooked on their devices

Adept in handling them from their very cradles. They

Crooned at the toons, nodded at the jingles like pros.

Their fingers danced over the screens of their devices,

faces bathed in an eerie glow, pale blue, ghostly,

Eyes focused on their screens, half hearing, half seeing

The people around them. And when they went off their

Devices, to respond to a query ( to not appear insensitive),

It was only to go online as the next notification grabbed

Their attention, from which none could shake!

Appleseed's hair grew rough and wild; Tweedledee lost her smile and

Tweedledum's laughter lost its timbre. The three were friends,

They spent the night chatting and playing; they went to school

Tired and sleepy. They slept through the class and their teachers

Woke them up and told them to wash their faces. Alas, they were

Lost in cyberspace; little to be done to bring them back!

Lost, drifting, uncontrolled, deeper and deeper into space.

Appleseed grew anxious, Tweedledee became aggressive, and

Tweedledum grew apprehensive. All three of them were friends,

But then they lost contact with others. DPs, statuses, symbols,

and emojis became more recognizable than their own

Than their own appearances. People did not recognise them.

Their phones were taken away, and they languished, not knowing

What to do; they were lost in cyberspace and couldn't be recovered!

Appleseed, Tweedledee and Tweedledum are now lost; parents,

Family and friends can't find them. They are lost in a world of digits

And matrices, thus martyred to the cause of advancement. Alas!

Their parents weep tears of regret, if only they'd not given their

Loved ones those smart devices! Instead of geniuses, they turned

Their children into zombies suckling hungrily on digital teats.

Find their parents and their family members; they are lost to a world
